Meet Boomer! His journey began at the Española Humane Shelter in New Mexico, where his family adopted him as a small, three-month-old puppy. They were told he was an Australian Shepherd mix who would grow to be about 40 pounds. But within the first week, Boomer was rushed to the emergency vet in Albuquerque when it became clear something wasn’t right. He was drinking excessive amounts of water and needed to go outside constantly. After several tests, they discovered his glucose level was 500, his pituitary gland was blocking insulin uptake, and he also needed thyroid medication. To make things even more challenging, Boomer developed cataracts as a puppy.
With the help of insulin, levothyroxine, and expert cataract surgery by Dr. Auten at Eyecare for Animals, Boomer’s health began to turn around. Today, at 4 years old, Boomer weighs a solid 102 pounds—far from the 40 pounds originally predicted! A DNA test revealed he is mostly Husky and Great Pyrenees, and his size (and paws!) finally made sense.
Now healthy and happy, Boomer loves howling with the coyotes and enjoying his favorite OLD DOG DIABETIC TREATS. Caring for any dog with health issues can get expensive. That is why Boomer's mom purchases our OLD DOG DIABETIC BULK TREATS. This 5 pound bag means about a 30% savings, so more cookies for Boomer and more savings for his human!!
His family is grateful every day for the joy he brings, and through a DNA test, they even discovered and connected with Boomer’s brother Walter, who lives in Los Alamos. The two brothers reunite at the dog park, making his journey even more special.
Boomer’s story is one of resilience, surprise, and love. The Old Dog Cookie Company is proud to be a part of keeping Boomer happy and healthy. Thank you to Boomer’s Mom, Wendy, for sharing his story and continued loyalty in our products and company. After 4 years of Old Dog Cookies, it's time we made this pup our Fan of the Month!

Meet our August Old Dog fan of the month. Bessie has diabetes, IBD, IBS, Allergies and Acid Reflux. She has been on a strict diet with NO treats, until her pet mom found our Diabetic Tiny Treats. We hope you will check out how this "boss girl" finally got to indulge again!
Meet O.D. Named for the Police Officer (Officer Davis) who was able to catch this stray and get him off the streets, so he could then be adopted. O.D's diabetic journey began 4 years ago and so did his love for Old Dog Diabetic treats. O.D. has an amazing veterinarian team and does Libre Sensor monitoring every 6 months. O.D's mom told us his vet team "is pleased with his insulin numbers and he's as healthy as a diabetic dog can be!"
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is getting to know the incredible dogs (and their devoted humans) who choose our treats. Meet Khloe, this very fashionable girl was diagnosed with diabetes twice!
