Our Favorite Dog Gifts for the Holidays

If you’re still searching for the perfect gift for the dog—or dog lover—in your life, we’re here to help. Over the years, we’ve tried a lot of dog products, toys, and accessories with our pups Moxie, Rosie, and Lola. Some were fun for a day… and others became beloved staples in our home.

Here are a few of our all-time favorite dog-inspired gift ideas.

Custom Ornaments to Treasure Forever

One of our go-to gifts is a custom, hand-painted wooden ornament featuring a dog’s name or portrait. We’ve given many over the years, and they always bring happy tears. They’re a beautiful way to celebrate your best friend—or remember a pet who has crossed the rainbow bridge. Our favorite artist is 139 Hand Crafted, whose work is always heartfelt and special.

Light Up Your Night Walk

Moxie loves nighttime walks, but as a black dog, staying visible is essential. Rechargeable clip-on lights have become our favorite solution. They attach easily to collars or harnesses, have multiple settings, and recharge quickly with a USB cable.

We’re also big fans of beanie hats with built-in lights. Not the most fashionable look, but incredibly practical, especially when the temperatures drop and you’re juggling a leash, treats, and a poop bag. Hands-free light is a game changer.

The Must-Have Toy

Rosie and Moxie are obsessed with their Lamb Chop plush toys. These squeaky, cuddly staples come in multiple sizes and holiday variations and they get played with every single day. If your dog loves stuffed toys, this one is a guaranteed hit.

Squeaky Tennis Balls

Moxie is a serious ball chaser. We’ve tested countless dog tennis balls, and many fall apart within minutes. The ones that last and make Moxie the happiest are the squeaky Kong balls. The squeak is everything. For Lola, we love that Kong makes a smaller version just her size.

In the winter, we switch to bright Hol-ee Roller balls. They don’t sink into the snow, making cold-weather play much easier (and more fun!).

Slow Feeder Bowls

If you have a Labrador, you know that dinner can disappear in seconds. Slow feeder bowls help Moxie and Rosie pace themselves and improve digestion. We rotate different designs every couple of weeks to keep things fresh.  We even add peas, blueberries, or a spoonful of yogurt for extra challenge.

Sniff Mats for Indoor Fun

When it’s cold, rainy, or snowy and walks are short, sniff mats are the ultimate boredom buster. Hide a few Old Dog Tiny Treats in the folds and let your pup go to work. Lola especially loves her sniff mat.

Anything Personalized

You can now put your dog’s face on just about anything. We’ve created socks, pajamas, and even scented car air fresheners featuring our pups. We’ve also made calendars, mouse pads, and photo books.

These gifts take a bit more effort, tracking down photos and doing some design but they’re always worth it. Our college-age son proudly hangs his Moxie air freshener in his car, and it never fails to make him smile.

Healthy Dog Treats

We’d be remiss not to include our own Old Dog Company Healthy Dog Treats on this list. They’re a perfect choice for any dog—big or small, young or old. Many of Moxie’s neighborhood friends have allergies or sensitive stomachs, and one is even a type-1 diabetic.

Our Diabetic Dog Treats are low glycemic, all-natural, and made without preservatives, artificial flavors, or added sugar. That makes them a safe, delicious option for all of Moxie’s friends. She loves gifting our Tiny Diabetic Dog Treats to her besties—it’s her favorite way to share the holiday spirit.

The Joy of Giving

Whether you’re shopping for your own pup or choosing something special for a fellow dog lover, these tried-and-true favorites never disappoint. From personalized keepsakes to practical walking gear, slow feeders, and healthy treats, each pick is something we’ve loved (and tested!) in our own home.  These gifts can be easily ordered on Amazon, a pet retailer or directly from the retail company.

Here’s to wagging tails, happy walks, and plenty of holiday cheer!
